Dance Gavin Dance may have a name you'd question for a rock band, but the outpouring of emotion this Sacramento, CA sextet puts into their latest 11-track offering needs no explanation. Drawing from the screamo, emo, punk, and hardcore genres, DOWNTOWN BATTLE MOUNTAIN concocts an impassioned collection of songs whose treble-charged volatility and sturdy musicianship yields melodically-memorable cascading guitar licks ("Lemon Merengue Tie", "Open Your Eyes and Look North") and powerful post-hardcore histrionics ("Turn Off The Lights, I'm Watching Back to the Future"). Fueled by the spastically frenzied rhythms and an abundance of time signature switches found on cuts like "And I Told Them I Invented Times New Roman", if you dig bands that stray from the norm like Blood Brothers, Coheed and Cambria, Saosin, Circa Survive, Fear Before the March of the Flames, and Alexisonfire, there's a strong possibility that this outfit will tantalize your musical sensibility.
