German guitarist extraordinaire Axel Rudi Pell has a lot to be thankful for, and he and his band give back in a way on the 11-track DIAMONDS UNLOCKED. This album, comprised of cover tunes from some of Pell's musical influences through the years, pays homage to both the obvious (Montrose, Free) to the obscure (The Mission, Michael Bolton) in a way where Pell puts his unique stamp on it without compromising the original composition. Also included is a haunting rendition of "In the Air Tonight" by Phil Collins in addition to a southwestern acoustic flavored KISS cover ("Love Gun"). Unafraid to give songs like U2's "Beautiful Day" a classic metal makeover (that sounds curiously as it stepped off the Sunset Strip) while giving The Who's "Won't Get Fooled Again" a kick in the pants, DIAMONDS UNLOCKED puts Pell's passionate spin on these tracks, breathing a metallic new life into some of these songs like never before.
