Los Angeles female fronted quartet Clandestine develop an admirable amalgamation of electronically enhanced heaviness on their release THE INVALID. Synthesized beats, progressively minded arrangements and anguished guitars collide throughout most of this slickly produced 10-track affair (“Phantom Pain”), sounding like a cross between Lacuna Coil and Dream Theater with a discernible sense of modern aggression a la Sevendust in the mix (“Dead to the World”). Powered by Julie Park’s stirring vocals, this troupe fluidly crosses multiple genres together to create a cohesive yet clinical array of pristine tunes that more often than not strikes a balance between heady progressive metal and contagious goth metal.
