A PALE HORSE NAMED DEATH
AND HELL WILL FOLLOW ME
A Pale Horse Named Death is the brainchild of Brooklyn, NY's Sal Abruscato, former drummer for Type O Negative and current drummer of Life of Agony. His latest project’s 13-track debut affair finds Abruscato bashing away behind the kit with his usual menacing grooves (“Pill Head”), but also doing a bulk of the guitarwork in addition to holding his own in the vocal slot, essentially making him a Goth metal version of Dave Grohl. Rounded out live by members of Seventh Void and Biohazard, truly making this troupe a Kings County all-star squad to be reckoned with, APHND pull no punches while grittily illuminating a bleak existence (“Die Alone”). Maintaining the legendarily oppressive slow tempo doom rock aura of Type O with a discernibly dark and depressive Alice in Chains vibe (“Devil in the Closet”) and a slight industrial tinge (“Meet the Wolf”), A Pale Horse Named Death is a disc that seemingly copes with the recent loss of Peter Steele in both lyrical content and musical direction, tackling the issues of drug addiction and depression with the subtle authenticity of people that have pulled themselves away from the wreckage and live to tell.
