St. Louis hardcore clan Calico System doesn't play like your typical hardcore band. It is almost miscategorizing this quartet by putting them in the aforementioned genre, as the outfit's 10-track release showcases an amalgamate of styles and sounds that range from So Cal punk rock to grimy metal a la Will Haven, as well as making stops in between everything from Thrice to Deftones to Grade. Calico System's eclectic yet heavy style helps the band move to the head of the pack with the quickness, as the band provides an unorthodox method that combines subtlety with explosiveness for a dynamic deluge that you'll surely not forget. For a sample, get lost in the head-bobbing thrash of "Soon I'll Be There" or the disjointed groove meets heavily hooked punk of the album's best-titled tune, "Girl Named Vegas".
